Cellular Phone Ring Tones

Customize Your Cell Phone Audio with Ringtones

The audible sound made by a telephone to announce that a call is coming in. The traditional ringtone was in the 440-480 Hz range, but as cellphone usage grew, it became obvious that ringtone differentiation would become important. Modern cellphones support a wide frequency range that allows for several bars of music to be played. Phones come with a selection of built-in ringtones and accept new ones from one or more ringtone services that are downloaded for a fee. Ringtones have become a fad, providing another mode of self-expression.

MP3 has become popular as a ringtone format because it supports voice. MIDI and Nokia's RTTTL (Ringing Tones Text Transfer Language) formats are used, but for music only. Depending on the phone and format, ringtones can be sent via text messages (SMS), but there is no standard for ringtone transfer for all phones and services.

There was a time when Nokia was the unquestioned master of the mobile music market. Monophonic ring tones were the only option in those days. Later, the polyphonic ring tones captured the interest and attention of customers. Both have faded into oblivion these days with the introduction of Real tones.

Real tones refer to MP3 songs or songs in some other format where polyphonic ringtones are actually midi files. MP3 files are basically compressed songs while just beeps can be created by midi files.

Various kinds of real tones are available in the market these days. Real tones with a unique sound are called True tones, where you have celebrities talking to you. Name tones are yet another innovation in the field of ring tones. One cab get one`s name announced through name tones along with the song. Now real tones rule the market gathering whole hearted devotion of the public. For most of the users, real tones are a medium of self expression.

The huge demand for ring tones has opened up a profitable industry with many companies competing with each other to gain control over the market. Companies like Infospace and Jamba are examples. Along with publishing ring tones they interact with carriers for distribution and billing services. But the role of third parties has been minimized these days with the market shifting its preference towards true tones. The formats now are standardized to internet based files.

Real tones have fetched large amount of income for music companies. Record labels frequently release the songs before they are even available in the market. The song 'Hung Up' was released by Madonna in the form of real tone before releasing the single.

People are crazy about ring tones as they can have their favorite song as ring tone. One thing to be kept in mind is whether the hand set is compatible to use the ring tone. But the consoling fact is that mobile phones supporting real tones are not very expensive when compared with sets with polyphonic ring tones. Any way the new generation does not mind paying a higher price for getting good quality ring tones of their choice. Real tones have gained momentum in the mobile music sector and are sure to go a long way in the days to come.

Many record executives are there who convert MP3 tones into complete music ring tones through a small process. They use specialized tools for this. Even though the overall quality of music is deteriorated, one can get a ring tone easily and quickly. It is also possible to rip CD collection and convert them into MP3. Increasing numbers of cell phones are packaged with full music and MP3 support due to the advancement in technology. A time will come very soon when we can enjoy digital music through ring tones that are easy to make and available through different sources.
